J.A.C.K. on MONUC Radio Okapi

Hello everyone,
Just after the departure of PASA, my husband Franck was intervieuwed by Radio Okapi which is the Monuc Radio in the DRC.
I know, comments and speech are in French, but it will be full of interest for the ones who unsterstand this language as it explains how JACK started nearly three years ago and the different results JACK now has obtained in the Katanga Province.
When JACK began in 2006, an average of 3 ape infants passed through Lubumbashi to fulfil the local and international pet demands.
This baby was sold for 600 USD on a Lubumbashi market…
Today, through law enforcement and education , J.A.C.K. has managed to reduce that trade. No new chimp has been seen in Lubumbashi since October 2007!!! Medias such as TV, radio and newspapers are very helpful and enable JACK to achieve its most important goal which is to protect endangered species….

“No new chimp has been seen in Lubumbashi since October 2007!!!” What wonderful news Roxane! Although I know that J.A.C.K. is making a difference it’s wonderful to hear that it’s been over a year since a new chimp was seen in the area. I am so grateful to you all at the sanctuary for your selfless dedication to these wonderful creatures and for showing the world that education and spreading the message of conservation works!

Any word on getting the baby chimp from Epulu? Can PASA help with the transportation so she can be with other chimps? I know you said there were problems with transportation so I wondered if PASA could help get her to JACK.

Yes, we had thought about PASA…and also about Sam of the Gorilla project who has already assisted us so many times…but early December we got a message from the lady of the Okapi Reserve saying she had brought ‘Dominique’(=the baby chimp) to the Centre of Lwiro (KIVU) … so, unfortunately,that little one will never come at JACK…
